During the British rule in India, this place was called Residency Market. In existence for around 200 years, Koti Sultan Bazar is famous for the latest fashion when it comes to women’s clothing. The market begins as a small lane but let that not dampen your spirit as there are over 300 shops to browse through. Standing tall for 60 years, this market has a reputation for selling the best fabrics. If variety is what you are looking for, then that is exactly what you get with the market dealing in chiffon, pochampally, brocade and much more. Women can go through thousands of options when it comes to purchasing kurtis, dupattas, salwar kameezes and blouses it is the hub of street shopping in Hyderabad.

As for the male folk, one can get good quality, shirt, trouser and suiting material at this market. Would you believe it if we told you that the price range for the fabric here starts at just Rs 40/- a metre? Stop rubbing your eyes, this is a fact. The prices depend on the fabric and can also go up to Rs 2000/-. So if you are looking to stock up for the upcoming festivities, you can do all the shopping here and stock up.

The famous ‘Choodi Bazar’ that is situated to the west of the Charminar is a paradise of bangle shopping in Hyderabad. This happens to be one of the oldest markets in Hyderabad and is famous for the artificial jewellery sold here. Apart from this, silverware, antique items, silk sarees, khara dupattas (a traditional variety), fabrics, spices, and perfumes are sold here. The truth is there is much more that one can get their hands on at this market.

What makes this place special and that which gives it its name is a particular type of bangle made from lacquer. These lacquer bangles are decorated and embellished with stones and gems to add to its beauty. Dating back to the period when the Nizam’s ruled the land, you will find it a pleasure to shop here. The lace shops are a star attraction as well. A word of caution - you would need to bargain here and trust us, the best deals ensue. Shopping in Hyderabad never got more exquisite.

How about a market that packs in good deals and beautiful architecture from the Nizam period? Exciting right? It was the seventh Nizam who ruled the place, Mir Osman Ali Khan who had the market built during his reign through 1933-1935. Christened after his son, Mozzam Jah Bahadur, this granite structure started as a fruit market but later began to deal in ammunition as well.

Today, dozens of stalls and shops line the market selling everything from fresh chicken and goat meat to fruits, vegetables, ittar – a local perfume and dry fruits. The famed Karachi Bakery is housed in this very market. You will find it a pleasure to get caught in the crowd shopping in Hyderabad while you sample the dry fruits, buy some ittar and enjoy every bit of the experience.
