Jim Corbett National Park

A reserve forest situated in Uttarakhand, Kumaon Himalaya Range. It is one of the oldest national park in India. Sona river flows through this National park.
Jim Corbett National park contains various species of trees like pine, sal, chir, shishu and many more. Besides having a vast species of trees it is home to many animal and birds. You can find elephants, wild dogs, tiger, forest cat, leopard and 580 species of birds.
Corbett National Reserve has two main entry gates- Dhangari and Aamdanda. Dhangari gate is 14 km far from Ramnagar, Aamdana gate is 3 km far from Ramnagar.
Corbett National Park spreads over 1288 square km. It is divided into 5 zones for the tourists and night staying is made available for the tourists inside the reserve forest. The tourism zones are Dhikala, Bijrani, Domunda, Sonadi and Jhirna, among it Dhikala is the best zone. Bijrani falls in the second best safari zone. If you wish to stay inside the forest first preference must be done for Dhikala, if not available Bijrani is the second option.
Ramnagar city is situated on the banks of river Koshi and Ramnagar city is called the entry gate of Corbett National Park.
From Howrah,05008 Howrah Ramnagar Express departs from Howrah at 08:35 reaches Ramnagar at 16:50 the next day. Other than this 13019 Bagh express runs between Howrah to Kathgodam and 12350 Lalkuan express(every Friday) runs between Howrah and Lalkuan. It takes around 2 and a half hour to reach Ramnagar from both the station. It is more preferable to take the Lalkuan express and hire a private car from Lalkuan to Ramnagar.
The most favourable timing to go for a safari in Jim Corbett National Park is during January to April. Jim Corbett National Park is open from 5th of November to 5th of June.
If permission is granted to stay inside the forest in the above mentioned zones, Gypsies are to be rented from Ramnagar.
As mentioned above, Jim Corbett National Park is divided into 5 zones.  Each zone has separate safari timings. Dhikala zone allows Cantar safari from 6 o’clock in the morning till 12 o’clock and from 1 o’clock in the afternoon till 6 o’clock in the evening. Those who are staying in the Dhikala zone, they can go for the safari from 5 o’clock in the morning. Other zone’s safari timing starts from 6 o’clock in the morning till 10 o’clock and from 2:30 in the afternoon till 6 o’clock in the evening. While doing safari one shouldn’t speak loudly, one shouldn’t use mobile phone and smoking and drinking is strictly prohibited. One cannot carry plastic bags inside the forest. Rag bag is to be picked up from the office before entering the National Park.
To enter the reserve forest one must apply for the permit before 45 days of safari to the Jim Corbett National Park’s authority.
