My weekend destination from Bangalore, I found a lot of things to do in Yercaud. the route till Salem is smooth. Yercaud is about 4 hour drive, about 220km from Bangalore consisting of 16 hair pin bends after Salem. In Tamil 'Yer' stands for beauty and Kadu for forest, hence Yercaud in Tamil means 'beautiful forest'.
It is usually known as Poor Man's Ooty. Yercaud is a quiet hill station with less commercialization as compared to Ooty.
Things to do in Yercaud
There are a number of things to do in Yercaud. However, on the day of my visit, the lake was misty and the visibility was very less, hence boating was closed. There are a number of eateries near the lake where you can sit back and have the amazing view of lake. Surrounding the lake are deer park and leisure park.
The beauty of the waterfalls after climbing about 250 steps is mesmerizing.
The temple is located inside a narrow, dark cave located at the highest point of Yercaud, approx. 5km away from the town.
Another view point, its also called as Pyramid Point as the tribes had built an arrangement of rocks in four Piles that looked like a pyramid.
According to legend, an English lady used to spend her evenings here while watching the beautiful views of the Yercaud Hills, hence the name. A great view of the valley can be observed from this point and it is one of the best things to do in Yercaud.
