I still consider myself as an amateur traveller but I am trying to learn from my mistakes.Below are few of the mistakes I have made while traveling and would suggest everyone to avoid it.

𝟏. 𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠

While  It's recommended to have a tentative travel plan it's better to avoid over planning the trip.  Planning everything to the T at times leaves you with no or less room  for alterations and you might end up missing out on something interesting. For example there might be some local festival or event happening which  you might miss cause you have planned something else already or there may be some not so popular but beautiful  place that you could have visited.
If it's an off season at the place you are traveling you can avoid making the hotel bookings in advance as you will get better options or deals once you reach your destination. It's better to have some flexibility at times because it enhances the experience, but in the end it depends on your personal comfort.

𝟐. 𝐏𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐈𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐲

Trying to cover too many places in a shorter duration may not be advisable as it might leave you exhausted and you will not enjoy your trip to the fullest. I remember in my early days of traveling me  and my friends had planned to cover Jaipur, Udaipur , Bikaner in a span of 4 days . We use to travel at night and visit tourist places during the day time. While it's a good way to save some money on the stay but we hardly got time to try proper Rajasthani cousine as we were always on the run. Although the trip was  fun we were very exhausted and if I think now we could have explored the places  better  if we had not tried to cover so many places in such shorter duration.
We do need to understand that trains ,buses and flights are not always on time and we do need to keep sufficient buffer. Also a good sleep in a cosy bed instead of a moving train or bus can do wonders.

We at times are skeptical about interacting with strangers. It might depend of your inherent personality ,but I feel it's better if you interact with people specially locals when you are traveling. You will feel more closer to the place and you will get to Know the region and it's culture better. Also the livelihood of the locals at these tourist places depend on travellers like  you so they have great affection towards you anyways. I have had a great experience interacting with the locals to the places I have visited so far, they always make you feel welcomed. However one should always rely on  their intuition while believing something or someone.

𝟒. 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐨𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬

Travel can make us impatient . At times we are so much eager to reach the destination that we opt for the quickest mode of transport which is usually the costlier one. You should be patient while traveling as you will end up saving money and you will end feeling closer to the place. The local transport are also a safe option especially if you are traveling solo

It might not be good  to be too experimental with the food while traveling and stick to the basics. You can always have your pizzas and pastas when you are back home but it can be a good idea to avoid it while traveling especially if you are traveling to offbeat locations. You should definitely try the local dishes but can avoid the fancy dishes which you anyways get in your home city. It's not that you won't get good quality but since it's not their speciality you might not enjoy the taste and can at times ruin your travel experience. Well this has been my experience at few places some of you might not agree with it
