Hello All,

While travelling to Dahanu, we had our plan set for next day, that is Sunday too and with family and voila, it was Bhandardara! We started at 7.30am in morning and we were soon on the Mumbai - Agra highway!

Bhandardara, a hill station nestled in the Sahyadri ranges of Maharashtra, has all the nature's blessings a place can get. The lush greenery, the humble waterfalls and surrounded by high mountains makes for the perfect holiday spot for city dwellers.

Situated in the Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra, Bhandardara is 117 km. from Mumbai and is easily accessible through roadways. This little village is packed with so many attractions coupled with the serenity of the nature that it makes for an adventurous weekend to run away from the hustle and bustle of the cities. Umbrella Falls, Wilson Dam, Randha Falls etc. are the places of interest in Bhandardara.

We started at 7.30am in morning and soon we hit the Mumbai - Agra highway! We reached Manas Mandiram at Shahpur, Maharashtra which was just on our way. We had our breakfast there, visited our first tirthankars Jain temple! It was peaceful, divine and majestic. A temple amidst mountains and greenery! And then we again set foot for our onward journey!

Just 168kms and 3h.9m away from Mumbai, the drive was wonderful. We passed through highest mountain peak of Sahyadris - kalsubai peak! Since it's rainy season, the climate was just wonderful.

Being pure vegetarian, getting vegetarian restaurant was a challenge but we did some offroading and reached Wanderlust resorts which was pure vegetarian. We had delicious and scrumptious meal. Never expected we would enjoy the meal!!. The resort was on the mountain and had a stream flowing by! Having food by the sound of gushing water was goals!

Day 1

After lunch we headed to Bhandardara dam. The Wilson Dam, built on Pravara river in 1910 is the largest earthen dam in India which speaks of the engineering excellence of those days. We weren't allowed to go till the dam. We had few contacts that would get us in but our mobile networks were down so we couldn't make any contact. So we just trekked down the stairs to dam and enjoyed the view the waterfall.

A must visit place to enjoy the dam water. It's a base of the dam with a garden that boasts of thick greenery, huge trees and little streams. The Umbrella Falls are the falls formed under the Wilson Dam and the force by which the water falls on the naturally placed rocks that gives an impression of an umbrella.

There is a little foot bridge that connects the Pravara River that one can use to cross and enjoy a closer look at the falls and the dam.

We then left for Randha falls as it was already 4pm and it was quite a drive from the dam. The roads were washed out and drive was bumpy. When we were halfway, we came across another dam or something like which had water level risen up to roads. We couldn't figure it out since it was heavily raining with strong breeze. We didn't find out what it was, so we continued our journey to Randha falls. 7 KM's ride took good travel time. Sometimes it would rain heavily or sometime just drizzle . But this Randha falls were spectacular. Wow. The tourism government has build a machan around the falls to view falls from every different angles. You can also swim in the waist long manmade pond near the falls.

We spent lot of time there and then left for Mumbai from another route which was a lot better.

The fog at fog city called as Igatpuri was one goals! After having dinner at one of the restaurants at highway, we were home by 10.30!
