Connected to the automobile capital of India via the East Coast Road (ECR) , Pondicherry is quite famous for the colonial ambience of the French style architecture. With umpteen number of beaches and backwaters along the coastline , Pondicherry provides a breathtaking view of the choppy sea. The four hour long road trip from Chennai to Pondi was definitely an unprecedented experience for us. We enjoyed the soothing constant breeze complimented by the oceanic misty fragrance on the go.
The enthralling views along the ECR is a treat to the naked eyes . It surely did favour the keen photographer in us. The long sunny ride did demand for some soothing and fresh coolant and we stopped by a small roadside vendor for some fresh " Pana Nongu" - a local fruit from the palm tree family that is not only thirst quenching but tasty as well.
Down the road we stopped by a fabulous stone sculptor carving huge stones into fascinating Art. From the Buddhas to Balaji, the place was acquainted with marvelous pieces of fine Art attracting every soul passing by. Its tremendous how the architects holds such great patience carving stones for days to get the final masterpiece out for the admirers. It definitely takes months to finish bigger ones and we hoped his hard work pays off.
At the end of the ride there it was , the mighty ocean ahead of us throughout the stretch. With cool and vibrant shacks and huts on beaches and luxurious resorts with affordable price tags pave the way to one of the best experiences of life. As the sun set we found shelter in "Le Chateau" - a splendid and charming hotel with modest and welcoming staffs. Not to forget the special welcome drink from Pondi at the hotel which they call "The Herbal Tea". The crispy texture of the tea along with the aroma is a never ending craving for the taste buds. A go-go place in Pondi.
