I reached Rajasthan after hippie days from Kasol

Pushkar

Pushkar was my first destination in Rajasthan circuit. Pushkar is religious and also a hippie hide out. Pushkar holds the only and oldest temple in the world dedicated to lord Brahma. The camel fair in Pushkar is the largest in the country and occurs in Kartika month (oct or nov). It is believed that Lord Brahma will shed petals of his lotus flower to Pushkar lake during poornima in Kartika month and holy dip in lake will bring good luck and ward all sins.

I reached Pushkar by evening, easily accessible from Ajmer by bus. I stayed in Milkman’s guest house.its the best stay I received in my whole trip. i got a room for 250 bucks with shared bathroom. The guest house has magnificent roof-top restaurant. They provides free wi-fi and library.i recommend this guest house for backpackers who travel on budget. Costs may vary during season

Pushkar lake is the important attraction. There are several Ghats through which one can enter lake.

Caution

You can see Pujaris performing rituals. Never accept any offer from lake as it’s a planned trap. Pujaris will give you flowers and other Pooja accessories for free and instructs to let it float in lake. Once you do this and while returning, they will re-appear and asks for donation. They won’t accept donations less than INR 1000.i read about this trap from a book before I landed Pushkar and is exactly true.

Other attractions are Brahma temple, music temple and school, camel ride etc. Roaming around in pushkar market will be a great experience. Camel ride will offer good experience as it takes you to outskirts of Pushkar. You can see people in their traditional dress and way of living.

Ajmer

Famous for its Durgah. Narrow streets of Ajmer leads you to Durgah. Streets are crowded with devotees, beggars and vendors. Inside Durgah, walls are painted with Muslim notes and prayers. I witnessed how religion defeats mankind. Nothing more to discover here.

Jaipur

The scent of royalty can be felt all around Jaipur. Jaipur offers lots of forts, palaces and monuments which reminds of royal Rajputs who once ruled Rajasthan. The major attractions are Janthar manthar, Hawa mahal, Jaigarh fort, Laxmi Narayan temple, Jal mahal and Vidhan sabha. If you are little bit short of time and money, the best option is go for one day trip by RTDC. It cost INR 350+tickets extra. You can see all important monuments with sufficient time for around 500 INR. Besides this, shopping will drive you crazy. Jaipur is known for its arts and crafts. Lots of backpacker stays are available, the best option is “Zostel” which is a famous hub for backpackers and as usual at budget.
