Spiti is one of the most sought after destinations in India. Just like Mcleodganj, it's another one of the Indian Destinations which would give you a tibetan touch.

The dispersed villages in the vast lands of the trans-himalayan region shine in the shadows of the monasteries.

There are two ways of returning back from Spiti either return from the same Manali route or take the road to Shimla going through magnificient Kinnaur. This blog talks about the later one.

Day 1

Manali is a turkish delight served to both the travellers and tourists alike. There is something about Manali that makes you come back to it time and time again.

Rohtang Pass is the gateway to Spiti.

The road goes pass the beas river with sheep and yak seen by the hills.

The most gorgeous view in rohtang is the frame in which each and every detail of the road could be clearly seen, complemented by the mountains in the background.

The scenic big flat valley of Batal would be where you camp your first night at.

Day 2

The moon lake is a definite no miss in your trip to Spiti. The road has it's challenges but is driveable till the last km(hike the way) of the 13-14 km drive from Kunzum Pass Top. Camping in Chandra Taal lake is the option that you should take for your 2nd night's camp stay.

You can choose to make halts at Losar and Kibber on your way to the next destination Key Gompa.

Day 3

The largest Gompa in Spiti is set on a hill top offering views that would leave your mouth open.

The dance masks are out for the annual celebrations of Losar by the set of monks as well as the students that live there.

Kaza is set by the plains of the Spiti River. The mountains on either side set up a delightful combination with the easy going town.

Just like Manali, the town is divided into two parts Old and New.

Spend the night at Kaza for the 3rd night of the trip.

Day 4

Komic is the highest motorable village in Asia. The monastery in the village takes you back many a century. The main building which has a fort-like construction is less than 50 years ago.

Hikkim claims to have the highest post office in the world which is untrue considering there is a higher one at Everest Base Camp in Tibet. Still it's definitely at the top when it comes to India.

Langza is 0verlooked by the pointy Chau Chau Peak. In turn there is also a Buddha statue that overlooks the village.

The surrounding area is rich in fossils.

Return back to Kaza for the last night at mesmerizing Spiti.

Day 5

The last phase to Kalpa goes through pine woods and apple orchards.

Kalpa is a bustling village lying in the Kinnaur Valley of Himachal region. The majestic views of Kinner Kailash and Jorkanden are something you can take your eyes off easily.

The last village of India is where you would spend the night, beyond this you enter into the Tibetan Territory. You would find the arbitary "last dukaan of India" sign board as you get into the border territory.

Day 6

Narkanda is where you go for some skiing when you visit Shimla. The destination is away from the hustle and bustle of Shimla. It's yet to be exploited by the humans.

The himachali capital is where your venture would end. It would be hard for you to adjust to the crowds for your city-familiarised minds have witnessed something that even alzehimer's would find hard to erase.
