If you are looking to travel cheap, don't mind experiencing the bumpy bus rides, are not fussy and have a lot of days in hand then this itinerary is for you.

DAY 1

• Bus from Kashmere Gate, Delhi to Narkanda, HP at 7:30 pm

(It's an ordinary bus. Travel time is for about 10 hours. Fare is Rs. 740/-)

Day 2

• Bus reaches early morning by 6 am

• check in to Hotel Mahamaya Palace (opposite to bus stand. Tariff Rs. 880 for a big room)

• After resting, visit Hatu Peak, the lake (I hiked to both these places. The walk is lovely through apple orchards. Make sure you eat at New Himalayan Dhaba. Delicious food)

Day 3

• Narkanda to Chitkul (must stay at Chitkul)

• check in at HPPWD guest house (Tariff Rs. 500)

• Visit the only school and temple here. Spend time next to Baspa river.

Day 4

• stay at Chitkul today also.

• Trek to Indo-Tibet border through the fields

• Enjoy the view at the village.

Day 5

• Chitkul to Kalpa with a stoppage at Sangla.

• Visit Kamru fort at Sangla.

(Road to Kalpa is terrible so it takes a while to get there)

• check in to a Homestay/ hotel.

Day 6

• Wake up early morning to see the sunrise

• Rest and visit the Buddha statue

• See the sunrise and enjoy the town

Day 7

• Walk to the suicide point and Roghi village (beautiful walk)

• leave for Nako (Bus leaves at 12.30 pm from Reckong Peo bus stand. The drive is mesmerizing through the Worlds Most Treacherous road)

• Stay at Nako monastery

Day 8

• Visit Nako lake, Fort ad prayer wheels on top of a mountain.

• Eat Israeli food at Shakshuka cafe.

• Enjoy the village on foot (one of my favorite places in this trip)

Day 9

• Leave for Tabo (bus leaves at 11.30 am from Nako bus stand. Road is terrible till Sumdo)

• Must visit Geyu village on the way to see a 500 years old mummy of a monk.

• Stay at Tabo monastery/homestays. (Monastery charges Rs. 100 per day for a person. It has dorm system)

• Explore the village. Must eat local food at Kunzoom Cafe.

Day 10

• Visit Tabo monastery and attend early morning prayers.

• visit caves near Tabo.

• Leave for Dhankar after lunch. Take a shared taxi (Charges Rs. 100 per person)

• Stay at Dhankar monastery guest house (Charges Rs. 200 for a dorm)

Day 11

• Visit Dhankar monastery, fort

• Trek to Dhankar lake

• Explore the village

Day 12

• Leave for Kaza early morning. Explore the market in Kaza (you can opt to stay here or move further. I didn't stay at Kaza)

• After lunch and shopping, leave for Langza (take a shared taxi. Charges Rs. 200)

• Stay at Phan Dey homestays in Langza (Tariff Rs. 500 inclusive of all meals and stay. Very humble family)

• Visit Buddha statue in Langza

Day 13

• Early morning go to Komik and Hikkim.

• Visit Tanggyud monastery and Worlds Highest Post Office.

• Come back to Langza (if you can then trek back, it takes only 3 hours if your speed is good)

• You can either leave for Kaza and stay overnight or spend one more night at Langza.

Day 14

•Leave for Key monastery

• Stay overnight at the monastery

• Explore around. Attend prayers. Help in cooking.

• Visit Kibber village.

Day 15

• Explore the ways of monastic life or look around the Gompa.

(Many foreigners stay and at night you can hang out with everyone at the cafe below the monastery)

Day 16

• Leave for Kunzum Pass early morning.

• Trek from Kunzum Pass to Chandrataal Lake (you can also go by car).

• Enjoy the lake and view.

• Stay at the camps near the lake (Tenzin camps are reasonable and good. It charges Rs. 800 per person with food).

Day 17

• Leave from Chandrataal to Manali.

• Stay at Manali

Day 18

• Take a bus to Delhi
