Matheran is a pollution free ecosystem. It is easily accessible by road & rail from Mumbai & Pune.
From Mumbai, you can catch a local train to Neral & from Neral sharing cab is available which will drop you at the entry point. From entry point, you have to either walk or take a horse. The path is simple & hence can be covered on foot.
To roam around you will either need to walk or hire horses depending upon your budget you can choose any of the options. But I will suggest walking through the jungle as in that way one can experience nature.
All the points can be covered on foot; 2 days trip is enough to cover the whole region.Every point has its existence, its view & its calmness. Cilia Point is must as one can sit on the edge of cliff and water fall is just next to you. The scenery is magnificent & breath taking.
There are many points in Matheran that will take your breath away. If that doesn't interest you, there are various option for adventure activities like zipping, horse riding etc.
Accommodation: One can usually find rooms easily but if u going on a long weekend do ensure to book in advance for better options & facilities. Rooms cost are moderate. The cost of room varies from Rs 800 to Rs 4000 per night depending upon your choice.
Food: There are lots of option available for food, from street food to restaurants you can find everything in the market.
I went to 4 to 5 times to Matheran & every time I visit it surprises me with its beauty. One of the best getaways near Mumbai.
Bored of spending weekends in Pub and disc you can surely try this nature's heaven for once.
