Switzerland, is a dream destination for all Indians, thanks to Yash Raj Movies and our trip was just as dreamy.
As we are mountain lovers, we chose to explore 3 hill tops around central Switzerland.
We took a Flixbus from Munich to Lucerne.
We reached Lucerne and the first thing we did was to to buy the 'TELL PASS'. This is the most cheapest way to get around all the tourist places around Lucerne.
This pass can be bought based on the number of days you have planned your stay. So, we bought 3 day Tell Pass for two people.
Benefits of Tell Pass:
- Costs much lesser than buying separate tickets for every tourist spot
- helps you avoid long queues
- includes most of the must explore destinations
- includes bus/train travel within the city and to the destinations as well.
- Also, Tell pass is cheaper in Winter (Jan - March)
Our Booking.com stay was just 4 stops from the central station. We checked in, washed up a bit and left immediately to our 1st destination - Mt.Titlis.
Tip:
Always pick your stay closest to the central train/bus station. This helps you save lot of unnecessary transit time within the city.
Since, we had the Tell Pass - we directly went to the station, got a bus to Engelberg and from their a train to Mt.Titlis.
This is one of the most famous spots in Lucerne. The view of the mighty Apline Range is enchanting. Also, Tell Pass includes one ride in the Ice Flyer (an open rope way ride), it's super adventurous and an amazing experience.
We left early and got the first bus to experience the Panoramic ride in the Interlaken Express.
This is where you just sit back and enjoy the view while the train takes you through the beautiful Meadows, emerald lakes and snow capped mountains.
It's a Four hours journey - (two and fro) but it's completely worth it. Also, tickets included in the Tell Pass.
Once you reach Interlaken, you can spend as much time as you want in the country side. You can also take a train to Jungfrau hill top from here. ( which we skipped)
We took a stroll around the country side and got the return train to Lucerne.
We hopped on to the 2'o clock Cruise to Vitznau from Lake Lucerne, just in time.
It is a one hour cruise with the beautiful cityscape on one side and the Alps on the other.
We reach Vitznau and took the Cog-wheel train up to Mt.Rigi, also known as the Queen of the Apline range.
We spent around two hours and while returning we took the ropeway down to Weggis and walked a little through the town and got the cruise back to Lucerne, while enjoying the sunset from the cruise deck.
Note - Tell Pass includes cruise rides/cable car/cog wheel rides. All of it!
It was time to visit 'Dragon stone'. If you are a GOT fan, you'll get it 😜. Yes, Mt.Pilatus is believed to be home to Dragons once upon a time, beneath the snow covered hill top are the Dragon Caves.
Pilatus was one amazing experience, not only because
its hill top gives you a Panoramic view of the complete Central Alpine region.
But also, the ride to all the way up in a Rotating Gondola (Cable Car) is spectacular. It is an engineering marvel!
If you will, you can try Paragliding here too.
Note: Tell pass includes the visit to Pilatus as well.
Once we returned from Pilatus, we had few hours to explore Lucerne. So we walked around the city, went the Lion monument and the Charles Bridge. And then spent some time sitting by the beautiful lake, until it was time to say Good bye!
Tip - If you have checked out on your last day and you don't want to carry your luggage around. You can take a locker at the Lucerne station. It cost us just 6 Euros for the day.
