Day 1

There were a lot of restaurants near golden temple. I was starving as I did not had anything to eat since morning and now it was around 1:30 I came out of golden temple.

Amritsar is also famous for it's mouthwatering food. It has options for vegetarians and non-vegeterians. The Kulchas dripping with butter, Maa ki daal, fried Amritsari fish, keema, etc. etc.

I entered a restaurant for food and chose to stick to vegetarian food as I was planning to visit Golden Temple again in the evening. I asked for Chola, Kulcha and chur-chur naan. And it was the bestest Kulcha and naan I ever had.

It was 2:30 PM now and I had to skip Jalianwalan Bagh because I had to reach Attari village on time to get seated in front row and watch 'Beating Retreat Ceremony' at border.

I hopped in a shared cab to Attari Village. The cab costed Rs. 200/- for pick and drop. The cab dropped me 1KM away from the border. There was a check point of Border Security Forces (BSF) where the crowd was gathered. After 15-20 min we were allowed to cross the check point. From this check point, no personal vehicles or cabs were allowed. I reached border well on time and luckily managed to get seat in front row (perks of travelling solo).

There was still time for the ceremony to start. I can see patriotism in every visitor there. I believe, it was the magic of that place that once you enter the arena, you get poured with vibes of patriotism. There was another level of energy in the crowd there. People were dancing on patriotic songs. It was such a retreat for eyes.

The ceremony began. I had goosebumps right from the beginning.

'Beating Retreat Ceremony' is a daily military practice that security forces of India and Pakistan jointly follows since 1959. The ceremony includes cultural performance and displays both rivalry and brotherhood between the two nations.

No matter what age you are, 'Beating Retreat Ceremony' is must to watch. Merely watching this ceremony pours you with adventure and thrill.
