I went in to Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar, along with my friends. This was of course our first time. In contrast to the wide popularity, especially in India, the narrow entrance to this beautiful structure & garden I felt doesn't really do justice. It is almost if you are visiting the Golden Temple, there is a strong possibility that you may just ignore this place. The authorities may have the reasons to keep such a narrow entrance but then I could not find them.

Some Pics of Jallianwala Bagh:

On entering the premises, there is a notice board that informs you of the historic importance and then I could feel (without seeing the specific spots till then) the sacrifice and the torture and the betrayal to Indians who, it is believed, were holding a peace protest.

We proceeded to see the walls that have the Bullet Marks, and the "Martyrs Well", where it is believed more than 120 people jumped, to save themselves from the rampant firing, ordered by General Dyer.

Over 1650 rounds of firing was done for ten minutes, after all the doors were locked and the people had no where to go but to accept death. 379 deaths and 1200 wounded - a figure stated by the British Army. The good and appreciable thing (positively speaking) is that the current British Prime Minister Mr David Cameron, on his visit to India in 2015 acknowledged that it has indeed been a mistake. Long time it took but it has finally come.

How To Reach Jallianwala Bagh

Jallianwala Bagh is located in the vicinity of Golden Temple. No matter where you are staying in Amritsar, both these tourist attractions are not more than 15 minutes and max 4 kms in the radius of your hotel. A taxi or an Auto should ideally charge you around INR 25/- per passenger.

A place to visit certainly, to acknowledge the sacrifice.
