Day 1

Wish list!!! one of the most wonderful thing ever invented, the reason is you can write anything you want to do no matter how crazy it is, no matter how impossible it is, just write it and then work for it until you make it happen. The same way I have my own wish list and among all those crazy wishes one was to go on a bike trip. Going on a bike trip is not a big deal, until your parents don't know about it. But for me it was, as of course I don't know how to ride a bike properly. So I planned a trip to Shillong on bike, the first step towards execution of this plan was to search a place from where you can rent a bike. Which is of course not easy as you have first have to compare the price, terms and conditions and then choose which bike do you have to pick. In Guwahati finding a place like this is easy, and we found our ride from wander lust. So finally, after waking up at 6 in the morning and planning for almost a week we began our trip. No wonder our first destination was Rajasthani Bhojnalaya; breakfast is must for a healthy ride. After which we were on the road again; while travelling from Guwahati to Shillong one can never get enough of scenic beauty, mountains, trees, and magnificent weather. After almost riding the bike for two hours we finally reached our first destination.

Umiam Lake; it is one of those very few lakes that I have seen which is a little clean, spread all over the place like a huge blue sheet with mountains and greenery all around it. It was a perfect spot for a picnic and an even more perfect spot for photography. After travelling for another 20 minutes we finally reached our destination, Shillong- 'Scotland of the east'. Shillong, a place you'll fall in love with at first sight, a beautifully planned and well settled city, with even more beautiful places to visit. Our first task after reaching their was to find a place to eat, which will not be very difficult for one as their are plenty of places to eat, so we just picked a random place had our lunch and then left for Shillong View Point.

So going their was the plan which failed, reason being we got late and took the wrong road as well. An advice whenever going to view point never take the entrance which goes through an army area always take the entrance which you will find on-route to Elephant falls, but no regrets as you can see the path was beautiful and with a bike trust me you will never regret going on a wrong path. With no choice in hand we started moving back to the city and onto our next spot which was Golf Course.

Now people will think that it is just a golf course what is so special about it, let's just skip it. Well of course it is just like any other golf course, but the view their at the time of sun set was breathtaking.

After this it was time for exploration, not just any regular city exploration but Cafe exploration, after 'Shillong aye or cafe ni gae, to kya khak Shillong aye'. The line itself explains that Cafes are important and trust me Shillong has one of those very beautiful cafes that you can't compare to any other place.

Well name says everything about this one, so I'll just tell you about the remaining, food, service and ambiance was good and shakes were even more amazing. So it was in all an amazing experience. But we couldn't stay there for long as it was late and there was another cafe left to explore.

Finding this one was a bit hard as it was already 8 P.M. and this one is located outside the city, that too inside the woods, so if you don't find it in one go just don't get depressed and keep looking and most important do not doubt on what google map says, follow it and you will reach there. As I already said we were late when we reached there, it was almost time for it to get close, so there was not much of a choice left from the menu, actually there was no choice left except for hot chocolate. But as we were there and the ambiance was too good to leave so we ordered that in order to spent more time there, and in about 30 minutes or so we left that place and started moving back to city. Now comes the biggest and most difficult task of the day, to find a hotel. Now in Shillong if you want you can get a room for 5,000 as well and 500 as well, but for travelers with low budget Shree Rajasthan Vishram Bhawan is the best place to stay. It has both Ac and Non-Ac rooms and that to at a reasonable price, also you can get good food to if you want. With this the first day of our road trip came to an end.

Day 2

New day, new adventure and new spots to visit. But our new day started with a problem as soon as we left Shillong we ran out of petrol. Avenger, Elevated road and a petrol pump situated at a distance of 2 k.m., so after we were done with filling petrol we were back on road. Road to Dawki is one the most beautiful roads I have ever been to. Imagine driving a bike on a road with mountain on one side and cliff on the other, also it has various spots on the way where you can stop and take a break, have something if you are hungry. After reaching to Dawki bridge we parked our bike and went down towards Dawki river.

If you really want to enjoy this place take a boat of course after bargaining or you can share it with any person, just make sure that the other person is ready to stay on the other side for a while, and then go there and swim. Trust me that is one place where you can actually stay for hours. Actually you can, one can camp there for Rs. 2,500 for one entire night, and you can do cliff jumping as well for Rs. 500 not cliff actually but a big rock. So we took a boat for Rs. 500, went on to the other side and stayed there for like one hour or so and then we came back. But the fun part began after this when right after we crossed the Dawki Bridge to head back to Shillong we got stuck in a Traffic jam, and after almost two hours we were able to move out of that place, so this is a free advice if you are going to Dawki only for the river then make sure you are on a bike and you park it before crossing Dawki bridge. But everything has it's own fun and adventure. We then head back to Shillong where we still have to go to one spot The Elephant Falls.

The picture explains everything, it is a beautiful water fall and a perfect spot for photos, there's a park as well just in front of the fall where you can sit and chill, but as were already late we just stayed there for 45 minutes. After which we started our journey back to Shillong with an awesome weather and a bag full of memories. With this our two days bike trip to Meghalaya came to an end. And I would suggest this to everyone that, 'Once a year, go somewhere you have never been before'.
