This was my second visit to the Ellora caves, near Aurangabad in Maharashtra, India. During my first visit we stayed here for 2 days at the nearby Kailash hotel (recommended if you want to stay close to the caves and spend a relaxed couple of days close to nature) and spent all at the Kailash temple only. This time also the story was almost the same. We only managed to visit 5-6 more caves apart from the magnetic Kailash temple.
Spotted few birds at hotel kailash and around the caves like the babblers, hornbill, great tit, sunbirds, prinia, robin, koel, greater coucal, apart from the common birds like red vented bulbul, myna, sparrows etc.
Recommended for a short trip. Can be a bigger one if one wishes to visit other places within 25 kms circle, like the Bhadra maruti mandir, Daulatabad fort, Aurangazeb's tomb, biwi Ka makbara in Aurangabad and Aurangabad city.
Aurangabad is the nearest city (28 kms). We started from Nashik (150kms approx) and took us almost 3 and a half hours to reach ellora by road.
16th of the series of caves at Ellora. built by removing lakhs of tonnes of stones starting the temple from the top towards the base.
Maruti idol in sleeping position.
