Hi

to the cutest

I don't know what name you like to be called by. So, I will gently whistle, and I know that you will quickly present yourself in front of me.. You will either be jumping on me with excitement or softly wrapping your body around my legs as you coyly look into my eyes.

You know, even I am thrilled to see you. But I wish I could match that zeal of yours. I don't know if you had sniffed my presence or had my solitude called out to my best friend, but we were destined to cross each other's path. It was you following my trail at times and leading me to the right path at others.

I remember once when I took a wrong trail and could not see you around. I apologise for doubting your love and loyalty for those few minutes when I found myself lost in the middle of nowhere. But as I retraced my steps back, you were right there, waiting for me, so that we could take the journey ahead together.

They say that you don't talk. But it is so much more you convey without knowing my language. You are more curious than I can ever be. You keep an eye on the movement of the wind. You keep your ear on the distant stream that we are yet to discover. Exploring with you is so much fun – you never get tired, you only stop when I have to rest. And when I rest, you fill my heart with your warmth. Resting on my lap, you move me with your affection.

You encourage me to go beyond. And while you take me along on unknown paths, your eyes question me – Where were you for so long?

I was waiting for you to come along. You know, exploring all by myself isn't as fun as it is with you.

I often recall the good times when we bonded over tea and biscuits. Haters may say that you were only there for those biscuits. But your licks and cuddles after, are a silent testament that you are there for the love wrapped in those biscuits. Just like me, I know that you too, talk about me with your other friends. Sometimes you bring them along to meet me or you take me to meet them. And it’s always a small party with the cutest guests.

My girlfriend is jealous of you. We never say it out loud but all three of us know what makes her jealous. You don't complain. You are kind. You know how to heal. You guide. You protect. But most importantly, you wait for me to come back, every single time.

I wish I could learn some loyalty from you. I wish I could learn how to love unconditionally from you. If not between you and I, where else in this chaotic world does a relationship made of no words but just feelings, exist?

I am coming to the mountains and I know you will find me even before I go looking for you.

Waiting to meet you,

Your Hiking Buddy
