How you can do ABC trek from Delhi by taking only a week's off and under rs.16,000.

We all want to go on a trek in remote Himalayan mountains but with our corporate jobs we hardly get any time. Recently, after doing this trek I have a perfect itinerary for you to visit ABC (Annapurna Base Camp) by taking only a week off. Sounds unbelievable? No it's not. You will have to start on Friday night of week 1 and you will return by Sunday night of week 2. So let me begin with this itinerary.

Day 1

Friday (Night): [Delhi to Gorakhpur] So you will have to start on Friday night from Delhi. You will have to take the Delhi - Gorakhpur bus from Anand Vihar ISBT. The ticket for an AC Janrath bus will cost you ₹1,400. It will take you around 12 hours to Gorakhpur, so if you take the bus at 9:00pm from Delhi you will reach there by 9:00am.

Day 2

Saturday: [Gorakhpur to Pokhara] You have to take a shared jeep from Gorakhpur to Sunaili border, it will take 3 hours and will cost you ₹100. If you take the jeep at 10:00am you can reach the border by 1:00pm. Once you reach the Indo-Nepal border you can get plenty of buses running to Pokhara from there. The ticket will cost you NPR 570(₹356) and it will take you 5-6 hours. The bus to Pokhara will drop you at Prithvi Chowk. From there you can take the bus to Lakeside for NPR 40(₹25) in only 15 minutes. You can find plenty of hostels at Lakeside. I stayed in Paila Hostel and it was for NPR 540(₹338) per night including breakfast.

Total expense at the end of day: ₹2,219.

Day 3

Sunday: [Pokhara to Ghandruk] After breakfast head to Damside to get a permit for the trek. You can find a lot of buses to reach there from Lakeside and it will cost you only NPR 20(₹12). The permit will cost you NPR 1,600(₹1,000), after getting the permit you should head to Baglung Bus Park. Getting there by bus would involve going via Prithvi Chowk and it will cost you NPR 70(₹45). Buses to Gandhruk run every hour from the bus park till 1:00 pm and it will cost you NPR 350(₹220). You will have to trek for about an hour from the point where the bus will drop you and you can get places to stay in lodges at Ghandruk at NPR 1,100(₹690) including, dinner and breakfast.

Total expense at the end of day: ₹4,186

Monday: [Ghandruk to Chhomrong] The real trek begins on this day, you trek for 6-7 hours. From Ghandruk to trek till Chhomrong, if you wish you can trek farther till the next hamlet Sinuwa. You will get accommodation in lodges for NPR 200(₹125) and two meals for around NPR 1,100(₹690).

Day 4

Total expense at the end of day: ₹5,001

Day 5

Tuesday: [Chhomrong to Deurali] Another day of trek, the level will get a little difficult from the previous day. Trek for this day is for 5-6 hours. You stay in lodges, the accommodation cost remains the same NPR 200(₹125) but the food will get expensive as you go up. It will cost you about NPR 1,300(₹815) for two meals.

Total expense at the end of day: ₹5,941

Day 6

Wednesday: [Deurali to ABC] All uphill trek with a 360-degre- view of snow-covered peaks. You will reach the base camp in 5 hours. Accommodation cost NPR 200(₹125) and cost for two meals NPR 1,600(₹1,000).

Total expense at the end of day: ₹7,066

Day 7

Thursday: [ABC to Sinuwa] You start your return trek today. The trail is going to be easy as it will be all downhill. You will get accommodation in lodges for NPR 200(₹125) and two meals for around NPR 1,100(₹690).

Total expense at the end of day: ₹7,881

Day 8

Friday: [Sinuwa to Pokhara] You trek till Matkyu today, 4-5 hours trek. Once you are there you will get buses to Pokhara from Matkyu. The cost of the bus ticket till Pokhara is NPR 400(₹250). Once at Pokhara you can again stay in any of the hostels. The cost would be NPR 540(₹338) per night including breakfast.

Total expense at the end of day: ₹8,470

Day 9

Saturday: [Pokhara to Kathmandu] After breakfast, head towards Prithivi Chowk on the bus, the ticket will cost you NPR 40(₹25) and from there you can get a bus to Kathmandu for NPR 500(₹315). The bus park in Kathmandu is close to Thamel, you can walk till there. Once there you will find plenty of hostels, which will cost you around NPR 300(₹190).

Total expense at the end of day: ₹9,000.

Day 10

Sunday: [Kathmandu to Delhi] If you book your flight ticket to Delhi from Kathmandu well in advance you can get it at ₹5,000. From your hostel in Thamel, a taxi to the airport will cost you NPR 400(₹190).

Total expense at the end of the day: ₹14,190.

The remaining amount can be used for the meals in between, You can get a good meal for NPR 300(₹190) in cities. For the trek you must carry berry mixes, protein bars and dry fruits from India itself as these would be expensive in Nepal. While on the trek, you must avoid heavy lunch and consume these high energy snacks instead.

This cost is for a single person and for the month of November, which is the peak season to do ABC trek. If you are doing it with someone and in any other month, the cost can be further reduced.
