Gather sticks and light up your own bonfire

It was just another holiday season and I put on my explorer’s glasses. One thing I knew for sure was that after a yearlong of hard work and work travel, I wanted to be at a place which was secluded and so to say, was not commercial. I have always been a beach person and thus the choice was made. The moment you say beaches, people only think of Goa. As much as it is true to its charms, there are so many untouched beautiful paradises across Maharashtra. And so ditching the crowd, parties and hustle bustle, I set on to find myself some quiet and relaxing time.

The gem of a place I found is known by the name Kashid. It is a beach town on the shores of the Arabian Sea. What it has to offer? Peace, nature, a clean beach and as its most attractive offer, a private beach all for yourself! The entire beach is spread across 4-5 kms, deserted and pristine. It is one of those places where once you reach; you feel it’s been awaiting your presence until then. The waves are high enough for you to enjoy and on lucky days, it’s a paradise for surfers.

Not so far away from the hustling streets of Mumbai, lies a tiny coastal town called Alibaug. To reach Kashid, one has to hop on one of the ferries to Alibaug from Gateway of India. Once you reach the shores of Alibaugh, the same ferry ticket entails you a ride to the bus stop from where one has to take a bus ride to Kashid. The roads are concrete, with a few bumps here and there, but I can assure you, all of it is worth once you set your foot on the cool white sands of the Kashid beach. There are a few water sports facilities available at the beach and some super shacks where you get the light snacks. The best option however is to eat the home made local food. Must try: The different kinds of Fish fry.

Accommodation is beautifully located by the beach banks. I would highly recommended staying at one of the home stay cottages as it gives you a different flavour into their Konkan lifestyle, the amazing food and the ambience. There are many resorts as well which have everything you can wish for at your footstep. The average cost per night at the peak time, such as weekends, New Years Eve etc goes upto 1500-2000 INR.

One can spend a good three- four days at the beach and go on a morning walk towards the Janjira Fort which is again a boat ride away from Kashid. As the sun sets, you can gather a lot of sticks and logs and light up your own little bonfire and if you have great company with your, chat your heart awayJ

Kashid-A place where you can be yourself, feel relaxed and come back refreshed. Some tips to keep in mind- Always make prior reservations for accommodation if you are travelling during holidays or festival time, Carry snickers or light snacks in your backpack, keep your phone charged and carry a tiny torch as at night it gets pitch dark until your eyes gets adjusted to the mild moonlit reflections and the soothing sound of the waves.
