The last time I visited Antigua in Guatemala, I stayed in this ancient place which is now turned in to a hotel. I still remember stepping into it was certainly a scary yet memorable experience, with old structures and dark corridors in the night frightening me to death! Have you ever stayed in a themed hotel where it's either just awesome or outright creepy? Well if you haven't yet, theres still a chance to do so! These 12 - some weird, some unique and some awesome places around the world are worth taking a look! You never know, you might just get a chance to stay at one of these some day!

A haven for bibliophiles, Book and Bed Tokyo looks like a used bookstore until guests slide open a bookshelf and reveal a cozy nook with a simple bed, reading light, and electrical outlet. Unabashedly bare-bones and not for the claustrophobic, 30 stacked cubbies, each big enough for one person, are available behind the shelves filled with 3,000 titles in Japanese and English. Bathrooms are shared, and couches in the area outside of the bookshelves provide a communal reading and gathering area. It’s more hostel than hotel, and at 3,500 yen (U.S. $35) guests will have plenty of cash left over for new books and exploring Tokyo.

At Costa Rica’s Hotel Costa Verde guests can spend the night in an up cycled 1965 Boeing 727! This Boeing has been turned into a two bedroom luxury escape, that almost looks like a forbidden plane between the jungle! Live in a jungle and ocean facing bedrooms. The place rests on 50 foot tall supports as the patio extends over the wings! Now I have never heard of anything like that in the middle of the jungle of Costa Rica! You can enjoy drinks at El Avión, Hotel Costa Verde’s restaurant and pub housed in a C-123 Fairchild cargo plane that played a part in the Iran-Contra Affair of the 1980s!

This out of this world concept is located on Vancouver Island. Free Spirit Spheres are UFO like spheres suspended from the trees, between the forest. Stay in either a wooden sphere or a fibreglass sphere! These spheres are made from sailboat construction and technology. Imagine how amazing it would be walking up a stairway hanging from the tree to reach your room!

Happy Nomads Camp & Hostel offers a traditional Kyrgyz life experience. Located in Karakol, in Kyrgyzstan, only 15-20 minutes on foot, Yurts function only in summer (April 1 - September 30). The traditional yurts come with modern facilities, yet are constructed with traditional bozui and have heated floors. The best part? The yurts are surrounded by flower gardens in warm weather, colorful rugs and wall designs. You can go for horseback riding during the day into the mountains or go skiing at Karakol Ski Area in winters!

Don Juan Quesada Valda was a pioneer in the field of organized tourism in Southern Bolivia. He decided in 1998, to build a hotel from salt! Bolivia's Palacio de Sal is world's first salt hotel made from the famous Salar de Uyuni salt flats to create a 48,500 square foot luxury hotel in the middle of the Bolivian desert. Even the bed platforms, dining room window frames, and arm chairs are made of salt! Stay in the largest salt flats in the world and its star-filled sky at night.
