When I announced I was off to Vietnam, half of my friends were like why Vietnam with a question mark, I agree with so many places to travel around the world their question did make sense, but the reason I had Vietnam in my itinerary was for the epic Angkor Wat which is in Cambodia which I wanted to do after.
In preparation I begin reading travel blogs to see what everyone else got up to when visiting the country. Now my list of things to do in Vietnam started growing, I was actually spoilt for choice ,I was planning to goto Vietnam for one week,followed by Cambodia and Thailand, so I was determined to fit in as much as possible for Vietnam.
Ho Chi Minh City
This is where we started our trip,we arrive in Ho Chi Minh planned the city tour for a day and mekong delta cruise and Cu Chi Tunnels.City can be done by yourself,we stayed at Silverland Central Hotel & Spa right next to Ben than Market which is considered downtown.You can either walk or catch a cab to palace and museum.
Next day was the Mekong Delta cruise,a Day Trip to the Mekong Delta is the perfect way of getting a taste of the Vietnamese countryside if you only have 1 day to spare. If you have 2-3 days, make sure you visit the floating markets in Can Tho as well.We booked our Day Trip to the Mekong Delta with the hotel – their staff arranged everything well and promptly.After the cruise which took half a day we visited chu chi tunnels.
The Cu Chi Tunnels
This underground network of passageways was built by the Vietcong or the North Vietnamese during the war, and was a important stronghold that the Americans repeatedly failed to conquer. I've read about the Vietnam war ,arriving at Cu Chi, it’s hard to imagine that this peaceful forest just forty years ago have been home to so much death and destruction.Its a great place to try some shooting with AK47s and Now, I’m from India, where guns are as rare,we still have our bad guys in movies carrying knifes and sickles and I support India's gun-free culture, and I hope it never changes.That being said, : Guns are cool.
Seriously. Blasting AK 47s was the most fun I’ve had in months. Now I understand why Americans love their guns:)
Halong Bay
Leaving Ho Chi Minh and arriving at Hanoi,Ha Long Bay is four hours away from Hanoi by road (30 minutes of rest in between). Lucky, the road condition was not too bad.Our two-day-one-night tour was provided by Grayline cruises.Its a must if you visit Vietnam.They pack so much activities like kayaking,swimming and then after dinner its buy one get one free drinks and dancing.The place is amazing and its impossible to explain the vast bay in words.
After Halong Bay back to Hanoi and boarded flight to Cambodia.
