Rani ki Vav...

A Sunday morning, a sudden plan, and a trip to remember. If you are staying in Gujarat, you don't afford to miss such beautiful and unexplored places. These places hold a nice history behind them which tempt us to go for it. We 7 people in a Chevrolet Tavera started from Vadodara by 7am in the morning. It was a one day trip which started with Modhera Sun Temple. After spending a hour there, we headed towards Rani ki Vav (recent inclusion in UNESCO world heritage sites), 38 km from there. Afternoon was spent in Mahudi Jain temple which again was quite historic. On returning from there, we stopped for Lunch in Honest restaurant on the way. We experienced the sunset in Kankaria Lake. A well-crowded lake-front which has all the entertaining stuffs round the lake. From boating to street food, it has all the ingredients to convert your tiring day into a refreshing one. Altogether, a 12- hour journey can give a a nice cultural experience. Don't think, Just plan it now.

It is situated on the bank of the river Pushpavati, 25 km from Mehsana and 102 km from Ahmedabad. It was built in 1026 AD by King Bhimdev of the Solanki dynasty. In the present times, prayers are not offered in this temple. This temple is now under the supervision of Archaeological Survey of India. According to these Puranas, Lord Rama, after defeating Ravana, asked sage Vasistha to show him a place of pilgrimage where he could go and purify himself from the sin of Brahma-hatya (the sin of killing a Brahmin, because Ravana was a Brahmin by birth). Sage Vasistha showed him Dharmaranya, which was near the modern town of Modhera. In the Dharmaranya, he settled at a village Modherak and performed a yagna there. Thereafter he established a village and named it Sitapur. This village is about 15 km from Becharaji Modherak village and it subsequently came to be known as Modhera.

Rani ki vav is an intricately constructed stepwell situated in the town of Patan in Gujarat, India. It was added to the list of UNESCO's World Heritage Sites on 22 June 2014. Rani (Queen) Udayamati commissioned this vav or stepwell, in 1063 in the memory of her husband King Bhimdev I of the Solanki dynasty. The vav was later flooded by the nearby Saraswati river and silted over until the late 1980s, when it was excavated by the Archeological Survey of India, with the carvings found in pristine condition. Rani Ki Vav is amongst the finest stepwells in India, and one of the most famous legacies of the ancient capital city.

The history behind this temple is quite interesting, and that's why it attracts us to visit this place once. #Sukhadi #Bell of 30 feet #wish fulfilment For more details, follow this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahudi
