Vizag – The city of Destiny

Vizag which is also known as Visakhapatnam is situated in Andhra Pradesh on the Bay of Bengal. It wasn’t on my travel bucket list. My destiny took me there and I loved being there.

Day 1

On 9th February, I and my classmates were ready for this adventure as this was the location decided by our faculty members for an industrial visit spot. As my course curriculum requires an industrial experience in Oil & Gas industry and Andhra Pradesh is a hub for this industry. From Dehradun we got on our buses for Delhi at night and reached Delhi in the morning

From delhi we boarded a train ‘AP Express’ till Visakhapatnam which took us around 2 days to reach our location. We enjoyed the train journey, it was the first time me and my classmates spent so much of time together in our entire college life and we got to know each other so well, we laughed and played pranks. We tried things we never had or never did before. At Vijaywada, we had our first serving of South Indian Idli Sambhar and Dosa as our lunch. We got high and trolled other passengers, this journey could have been very different if any of us travelled solo, and it would have been very tiring.

Day 2

On 11th Feb. we reached our destination and got our keys (which were electronic cards actually) for the ‘Keys’ hotel.

As soon as we reached our hotel most of the students including me wanted to go out and explore the city.

We dropped our luggage in our respective rooms and bought few cigarettes and beer and went to ‘Rama Krishna/RK beach’ which was nearest from our hotel. At night everything looked so calm at the beach it was only the tides that was breaking the silence and hearing the waves coming gave us immense satisfaction. Many of my classmates visited the beach for the first time and their excitement level was too high. They kept running at the beach playing around as if it was the first time they were given freedom. While I was sitting at a rock taking puffs from my cigarette and observing the serenity around me. After a while we went back to our hotel since next morning we had to leave for ‘Kakinada’ as early as possible.

Day 3

Our bus left Visakhapatnam around 7:30 Am. We saw many picturesque locations along our way I couldn’t capture it because we were running late on time. There were huge boats at one side of the road and endless water while a dense forest with coconut trees on the other side. The view was indeed very refreshing. We reached ‘Reliance KG D-6 Natural Gas Processing Plant’, Kakinada around 11:30 Am. and paid our visit to the industry and tried our best to understand the working of the plant by just watching few videos, since we were not allowed to see the actual working inside the industry. We got free from the site around 1:30 Pm. And reached back to our hotel around 5 Pm. Then few of my friends and I went out to have traditional South Indian dishes.

The best restaurant at affordable prices we could find was ‘Sri Sai ram Parlour’ we had Paper Masala Dosa, Rawa dosa etc. and the taste was entirely different from the dosas that I have tried in North India. Sometimes I still miss that food.

After having our food we went to RK beach once again, now it felt as if we have been knowing this place for a very long time. We still enjoyed our time playing with the sand while simultaneously I was worried about little crabs biting my legs. Around 10 Pm. We went back to our hotel and were awake whole night sharing different stories, sharing drinks and other stuff as next day was a free day for us.

Day 4

I woke up early to see sunrise at RK beach but unfortunately the sky was cloudy. Though I still somehow managed to get few good shots in the morning. Then I went back to my hotel and was out with my mates to explore far off places of Vizag.

Our first stop was ‘Kailashgiri’ which was a Shiva temple and also the highest point of Vizag. The view from the top was very pleasant.

After Kailashgiri we went to ‘Rushikonda beach’. Where we spent some quality time, had some Coconut water and American corn. After spending 2-3 hrs at the beach we headed back towards our hotel. Then on reaching the hotel I and my group went out again to look at the places to have lunch.

We went to 'Alpha Restaurant' to have the famous ‘Hyderabadi dum biryani’. Along with it we had some ‘Chilly Prawns’ which were entirely different from the prawns I ever had. After having our lunch we went back to our hotel and partied till 2 Am. Since next morning we had to leave early for another industrial visit.

Day 5

Next day we went to ‘HPCL Vizag Refinery’ and got free from the location around 2:00 PM. After that we had no work to do so I and my friends booked ourselves a Zoom Car. It was 14th Feb. and our day was going very good so far.

At first in our zoom car we went to ‘Sri Sai Ram Parlour’ once again to have traditional South Indian dishes.

After that we went to ‘Yerada beach’ and I believe it was one of our best decisions. (Check my pictures) The beach was very quiet as it was quite far from the actual city, it was at such a location where one could see mountains meeting the beach. I got few good shots since we reached there at the time of dusk. After that we went back to our hotel and discussed the stories about which group of students went at which locations and mine was the best among the lot. Next morning we departed from Vizag and was sleeping during most of the journey. We reached Delhi around 7:30 Pm. And went to CP to have our food. Then departed for Dehradun via bus.

Day 7

My overall experience was amazing. The unplanned trip and events were worth the efforts. I had some really good time with my colleagues. My destiny took me to places I never imagined and I loved being part of this journey.
