March 2020. I was home after a year of continuous travel. United with family, friends, and my pillow, “I love to travel, but there’s no place like home!” I exclaimed. Little did I know that a year later, I’d still be home.

While I’m grateful for the much-needed rest, time to pursue other hobbies, and the safety of one’s home during a pandemic, I miss travel - and so I’ve learned to visit places through books, music, films, and food.

Today I bring to you eight restaurants in Delhi that serve delicious regional cuisine and home-deliver food in well-packaged, hygienic (and sometimes eco-friendly) containers. I may not be able to travel to my favourite regions in India just yet, but my weekly culinary expeditions definitely transport me to places I can’t wait to visit again!

Read on and enjoy the virtual feast.

Mahabelly is my absolute favourite place to order-in Mallu food in Delhi. Hot appams, parotta or ghee rice with one of their non-vegetarian specialities like erachi double fry or mutton stew are sure to take you into food coma!

Nothing quite like Parsi food to beat lockdown blues! From dhansak to berry pulao, keema pao, salli botti, and vada pao... there's something for everyone at Rustom's - even chaat and mawa cake!

If you're craving litti chokha and all kinds of poori, Potbelly is the place for you! Offering authentic Bihari khaana, this place never disappoints!

If there's one region I miss the most it's the northeast and a large part of this is for its food! Nagaland Kitchen literally transports you to Nagaland through the Naga chilli and smoked pork on offer.

Pondicherry is a favourite destination for many young travellers - and not in the least for its French influence, including the food! Known for its picturesque lanes and quaint, artsy cafes, Chateau de Pondichery gives a taste of Pondicherry in the heart of Delhi!

Whether you're craving momos or a proper Sikkimese thali, Nimtho is your best best for Sikkimese food in Delhi!

Missing Bengali food? Look no further - Oh! Calcutta and Wow! Calcutta both have lots to offer, from traditional machchi to biryani and luchi - order away!

Last but not the least, Samavar whips up authentic Kashmiri food that you can devour from the comfort of your home. Always marinated to perfection, it's a non-vegetarian's dream, though they also have traditional delicacies for vegetarians. Check it out!
