Beautiful... Magnificent... Picturesque... Captivating... Romantic... you can add as many adjectives as you can to this city. Yes, I'm talking about the beautiful 'City of Lakes' Udaipur. I happened to visit the historical city on 7th of September, 2019. I was accompanied on this tour by two of my friends. In this blog, I will be telling you about the places I explored in our two-day's trip.

Day 1

Lake Pichola

This day was a little hectic for me as I had to catch my train to Udaipur City from Delhi Sarai Rohilla railway station. We had booked our tickets for Chetak Express that leaves Sarai Rohilla railway station at 7:35 p.m. and arrives at Udaipur City railway station at 7.50 a.m. next day. I always prefer an overnight journey as you are left with entire day at your destination. The train was on time when we get off at the railway station. After having a look all around the platform, we moved towards the exit. As we came out of the station, we were surrounded by the auto drivers who were so stubborn as if they would drag us into their autos. We then talked to an auto driver who looked little decent to us (you can opt for ola/uber cabs also). We booked him and headed towards the hotel we had booked. While we were on the way, he narrated us about the major attraction of the city and offered us to provide a two-day's city visit, which we agreed on after a short discussion amongst us. We checked in to the hotel and got fresh. After having a light breakfast, we were ready to explore the beauty of the city. We called our driver and we were moving towards the famous 'Lake Pichola' an artificial fresh water lake which was made in 1362 AD. It was named after a nearby village called 'Picholi'. You can enjoy the boat ride here, without which, your 'Lake Pichola' visit is incomplete. The boat ride offers you the magnificent sight of 'Jag Mandir' and 'Jag Niwas' located within the lake. Keep your cameras ready as you will witness the grand heritage of Mewar.

City Palace

As we were out of the 'Pichola Lake' we headed to our next destination 'City Palace'. While going to the palace, we witnessed a beautiful garden surrounded by green lush hills.

After capturing many photos in the garden, we again moved to the City Palace. We reached to the ticket booking counter and got our tickets. Here you can opt for the entry ticket only or the ticket for the museum as well which will cost you higher than you expect. Well, we moved towards the entrance to the palace.

Inside the palace campus, you will find many picturesque spots for your Instagram feed. Well, we entered the historical meausium of the palace. The museum has a vivid collection of ancient sculptures, war weapons, antique pieces of art e.t.c. But the best things about the place is that at every corner you will find a place where you would love to get snapped.

Hungry...? The palace has a nice restaurant for you to satisfy your appetite.

Jagdish Temple

I would highly recommend to visit Jagdish Temple if you are in Udaipur. It has a flight of stairs leading to the divine temple. The majestic view and the stunning architecture of the temple left us mesmerised. You can practice a little meditation here and you will feel a divine peace within you. After spending a peaceful time in the association of lord Jagdish, we felt like having our lunch. It was mutually decided to enjoy the famous Rajsthani dish Daal Baati Churma.

Fateh Sagar Lake

After our lunch and a little rest in our hotel room, we decided to stroll down the Fateh Sagar lake which is named after Maharana Fateh Singh of Mewar. It was truelly a blissful evening walking along the mesmerizing lake. The weather was really awesome, the rain was spraying it's droplets and we three were walking to the endless pathway of the beautiful lake. Many local vendors can be found selling mouthwatering eatables. Guess what...? We bought juicy bhutte(corn) for I can't let it go in such an amazing weather.

It had grown dark already, so we decided to explore the local market. Our driver took us to the Bapu Bazar, where the locals had organised Ganpati Utsav in a puja pandal. Within few seconds, we also became a part of the amazing crowd there. Everyone there was dancing to the beat of the loud music of the loudspeaker, so did we. Its really a never forgetting moment when you become a part of an event organised by the locals. We dined into a nice restaurant and had a palatable dinner there and some street food. I did some shopping there as for me a tour is incomplete without a shopping done there. Day one was over and we returned our hotel room.

Day 2

Shilpgram

Our second day plan was to visit Sajjangarh Fort and Shilpgram. So, after taking our morning breakfast in the hotel, we headed towards the Sajjangarh Fort but later we came to know that it was closed for visitors that day due to some festival. We had no options, so we moved towards our second destination: Shilpgram. It is a complex that exhibits rural arts and crafts. It showcase the lifestyle of the tribal and folk people of the region. The arts and crafts exhibited and sold here can steal your heart away. One can enjoy a camel ride, watch the folk dance show and admire the local folk music presented by the tribal people. The area is surrounded by the Aravali hills and much of greenery.

The first thing we did there was the camel ride. I was bit worried coz it was my first ever camel ride experience, but it was truelly amazing. After the ride was over, we moved forward to explore it further. The greenery all around gives a soothing experience and pleasure to eyes. The status of tribal people attracts you to get snapped. Moving ahead, we reached to a place where an uncle ji was working with clay. Many pottery items and handicrafts were there for sale. I request him to teach me some pottery lesson and uncle ji happily agreed. It was completely a new experience for me.

After having an amazing pottery experience, we marched ahead. Next to us was a mud-house. As we entered, we Happened to see many clay pots, and things which is may be used by the tribal people there. We found a wood house too there. Just next to that house some tribal people were performing folk dance and music show. We rushed to the place and took our seat on the carpet spreaded on the ground. It was a beautiful experience which you can never get in an urban lifestyle. After the show was over, we did some shopping there and explored the place as much as we could. Now we were not left with much time as we had to catch our train back to Delhi, so having many beautiful moments in our heart, we bid goodbye to the place promising to visit again, afterall Sajjangarh Fort any some more places were still unexplored.
