Gangtok is one of the best place to spending vacations. The beautiful mountains covered with snow, the religious practices followed here and the buzzing bazars and markets consisting of handicrafts and artifacts are the most attractive element of the place. If shopping is your passion and hobby, this place hits the bulls eye as there are innumerable stuff to purchase. The handicrafts and artifacts found here are very attractive and sold in a large quantity. The sales of these items are very high. If you are looking for decorating the floors of your house, the carpets found here are very stunning. Canvas and wall hanging decorators are extremely beautiful. Dragon pattern stones are very famous here. The Sikkim tea, bamboo shoots, jackets, carpets, stone and jewellery are the must by things in the shopping list. You will freeze in the weather here as in the month of November which I went, the entire place is covered with snow and only snow.

The Nathu La is situated at a altitude of 14140 feet and is 52 km from Gangtok. Remember studying history in the junior classes where we had been taught about the Silk route. This is the place from which the Silk route operated where trade between Tibet and India took place. On your way to the site, you will encounter an ATM. Since the altitude is so high and it is difficult to find any resources available, yet a place called Thegu has the ATM facility which is the highest point in the world. One nedds speical permit to visit this place and only Indians are allowed here. The oxygen level in this height is very low so one can carry cylinders along with them which costs around 4k to 5k.

The Gurudongmar lake is siuated at a height of 17800 feet. The lake is white in color and since the lake is frozen in all the seasons, it cannot be used for drinking purposes. However there is a story behind the lake. It is considered very sacred by Buddhists and the Hindus. The story is that when Guru Padmasambha was passing through Tibet the locals here requested him for water and a source through which they could have water supply. The guru then touched a part of a lake and from then, that portion of water in the lake did not freeze during the winter season. So this lake is considered to be very sacred and blessed. You will love the view of the entire surrounding and the water here is one of it's kind.

It is one of the largest monastery in Sikkim. The experience is very divine and spiritual. There are various monks in the monastery and one can mingle with them and discuss about their culture and customs. The location is very pristine and the place is very serene.

Mount Kailash is one of the highest part of Himalayas. The mountains are dry and it is one of the most important pilgrim site for the devotees where every year thousand of people come here. They walk on foot and it takes almost 3 days to complete the journey. The distance is of 53 km and the unique thing is that hindus and buddhist walk in the clockwise direction whereas the jain walk in the anticlockwise direction.
