A maiden trip to Thailand & Cambodia had always been running in our minds since our College days .
The moment we realised that Spicejet has introduced its newest flights From Kolkata to Bangkok. We didn't delay any further & immediately booked the flights from Agartala-Bangkok via kolkata at a very low fares.
Our flight from Agartala was in the late afternoon and with a several hours stopover at NSCBI Airport Kolkata, Our Spicejet flight finally landed at Suvarnabhumi Airport in the wee hours of the morning.
Clearing all the immigration process & after procuring the Visa on Arrival, we took the postpaid taxi's to Don Mueng Airport (an one hour taxi ride from Suvarnabhumi Airport), from where our Nok Air Flight to Phuket was to take off.
The aerial views of Phuket islands were spectacular, mesmerising & breathtaking.
After reaching Phuket Airport, We caught taxi from the airport in Phuket to our hotel, Patong Marina, which was on Patong beach. Evening was spent at Bangla road enjoying its vibrant and famed nightlife and one of the lively bars sipping Chang & tiger beers.
Next day we got our pre-arranged island speedboat tours to Koh Phi Phi islands & Maya beach.
Followed by island tours to Phang Nga bay & James Bond & the floating village of Panyee.
After a sun tanned beach vacation for a week in queen of the andamans-" Phuket islands, we finally took the Air Asia flight to Siem Reap, Cambodia via bangkok.
After breakfast at hotel, 7:30 AM morning , we took a tour to Banteay Srei (Citadel of ladies) is a 10th century Cambodian temple dedicated to the Hindu God Shiva. Located in the area of Angkor Park, it is the unique temple of khmer treasure art in Angkorian with the beautiful pink sandstone carving. Then we move to Banteay samre, it is about 20km from Siem Reap province. Same is the aboriginal people coming from the union between (Indonesians or Veddist’s tribes). They settled near the food of Kulen mountain and they considered the people of ( Preah Dak now) as their descendant. Next to Pre Rup is a temple at Angkor, built as the state temple of Rejendravarman II and dedicated to Hindu God Shiva, It is a temple mountain of combined brick, lava rock and sandstone construction. Break for Lunch at local restaurantAfter lunch we went to visit Angkor wat Temple is a temple complex at Angkor, Cambodia, built for the King Suryavarman II in the early 12th century as his state temple and capital city.
As the best –preserved temple at the state, it is the only one to have remained a significant religious center since its foundation-first Hindu. We took time to explore this architectural wonder and view some of world –class bas-reliefs: the intricate carving showing scenes from the Ramayana and Mahabharata, as well as the celebrated South Gallery showing the Churning of the sea Milk.
We Departed the hotel early morning and travelled past the huge temple of Angkor wat, through the walled city of Angkor Thom, past Bayon, the Terrace of Elephant and Leper king, to the finest monument Preah Khan. Built on the site of Jayavaraman’s victory over invading Chams, Preah Khan is a massive structure, partially ruined and overgrown in places, but with some strikingly notable feature: the Hall of dancers is decorated with fine Apsara carving, and a corridor of 40 doorways runs east-west through the main axis of the temple. Then we proceeded to Banteay Kdei, Ta Nei and then on to Ta promh (Hollywood movie tomb raider), one of the most popular temples in the park. Once home to 600 exquisite dancers, the time spend within Ta promh provides the opportunity to ponder, not only man’s ingenuity, but also the forces of nature as the forest gradually takes a firmer hold over the temple ruins. It is ideal for exploration, photos and contemplative time. In the late afternoon the temple should be quiet as we witness the last of sun ray.

Angkor Thom- the Great city of King Jaryvaraman VII, after lunch we travel to the Victory gate of Angkor Thom. Walk along the 8m high laterite wall (500 m) of the ancient city to the relatively unvisited and magical East Gate. The crematoria built against the outside of the city wall are best seen from up on the wall and gives rise to the popular name of “Death Gate”.
We continue through the shaded parkland behind the Terrace of Elephant and then switch our attention to temples that pre-date the city. We walked past Phimeanakas, with its beautiful lakes and the monumental Baphoun temple. We move to Bayon, Jayavaraman’s state temple at the center of the city where we explore this important temple with its many captivating giant stone faces.
The largest freshwater lake in South East Asia which was designated a UNESCO biosphere in 1997. The flow of water changes twice a year, depending on the season. Several floating villages have sprung up on the banks of the lake over the years and have expanded into the lake and depending on water level, are either floating or on high stilts barely touching ground. We can visit Kompong Pluk or Chong Kneas where you will experience Life of the villages, from homes, schools, churches, hospitals, restaurants and fish farms. Then visit the Artistan’d school centre where makes the wood and stone carving.Break for Lunch at local restaurantAfter lunch we will explore the Rolous Group, comprising three main temple sites: Rolei, Preah Ko and Bakong, all located in the earliest Angkorian capital, Hariharalya.
Explored the earliest large scale and recognize the first use of various architectural forms such as Naga and the stepped or tiered temple mountain.
Angkorwat temples were rediscovered after being lost in the jungle for over 1000 years. Our abled experienced guide Mr. Lekh Puy took us to about more than 10 different temples throughout the 3 days & were impressive and fanstastic to see. It was also good fun driving in the A/c cars in the humid weather between each one. Each temple has its own different points, some have trees growing through the walls that are actually keeping them standing, they are the most famous landmark of Cambodia and the main beer of the country is called Angkor!
From Siem Reap we took the overnight Giant Ibis bus to capital Phnom Penh & then onwards journey to the famous beach town of Sihanoukville.
On reaching sihanoukville we hired a tuk tuk ride till our lovely beach huts in Otres Beach which was a 15-20 minutes journey from the Ibis counter.
Next day we embarked on our first Island tour in Cambodia to the beautiful Koh rong Samloen & Koh rong islands.
Where supposedly Bioluminiscent planktons are said to be visible during dark nights.
After our tiring days in Sihanoukville or Snooky, we took a return bus to Phnom Penh for our onwards journey to Bangkok & then India.
We reached phnom penh around late afternoon and found a Tuk Tuk driver through facebook, Mr. Andy a local and hired him for around $40 for the entire day. Our first stop were 'the Killing Fields' which are about 15 km out of the city. Between 1975 - 1979 in Cambodia there was a regime trying to take over the country and forced the whole population out of the city to farm the land. Those that were against or thought to be were killed and so thousands of innocent people lost their lives. These killing fields were some of many but the biggest that have been found and it was a very sad place to visit although it was very quiet and calm there.
In the middle of the area of land that have built a tower where they have on show 8000 human skulls that were found at that site which is a chilling thing to see, they also have a massive pile of the clothes that have been founds as well. They still have areas that haven't been dug up and as you walk around they are fragments of human bone everywhere as well as clothing etc... From there we went to the S21 Genocide museum which is the prsion where many of these people were kept in tiny calls and tortured etc. Again this was a very sad place to visit but one that shows you so much about the history of the country. After spending about an hour there our tuk tuk driver took us to the Royal palace & museum.
