Here are the 15 best food cities in the world, because, nobody dislikes food!

Tripoto

We all love food, don’t we? One doesn’t have to be a foodie to enjoy good food. I haven’t met a person who doesn’t like eating. A great travel story is incomplete without tales of mouth-watering delicacies and food streets.

Here is a list of the 15 cities known for being the best food capitals of the world, in no particular order, of course!

1) Hanoi, Vietnam

Eat like a local and take to the streets for freshly prepared dishes such as pho tiu noodles with a sweet and sour soup, pork and fish sauce; banh mi, a baguette filled with pate, cucumber, herbs, crispy onion and chilli; and com tam, broken rice with grilled pork, pork skin, egg and fish sauce. Finish with traditional egg coffee - or ca phe trung - a blend of coffee and egg whites, folded with sugar, drunk hot or cold. US Prez Barack Obama was spotted here savouring $6 noodles here.

2) Chennai, India

Chicken 65 is to India what buffalo wings is to the US. It is said that this Indian starter was invented at Chennai’s Buhari Hotel by the hotel’s founder and possibly named after the number of chillies in the original recipe. The street food joints here are also something one shouldn’t miss.

With a dish named after it: famed Lyonnaise potatoes, sliced and pan-browned spuds with onion and parsley, Lyon is considered the foodie epicentre in this country whose cuisine is arguably the world’s finest.

6) Buffalo, New York, USA

7) London, UK

London is one of Europe's most exciting food cities, covering world cuisine like nowhere else. Between the high-class gourmet hangouts of the rich and famous to the endless pop-ups and street food that is in the east of the city, London is the only British city to feature in the World's 50 Best Restaurants awards.

8) Taiwan, China

From tongue-searing Szechuan dishes to Cantonese dim sum, Taipei’s food scene highlights the diverse cuisines of the Mainland Chinese who’ve settled there. It is said that a little sweet, a little salty, braised pork rice is comfort food perfected, and that there is nothing like a good Taiwanese food debate centred around beef noodles.

9) Jaipur, India

Jaipur is one of the few places that represents the cooking of the Rajputs, the warrior princes who ruled most of Rajasthan up until the Sixties. Hunting and expeditions were a big part of it, so char-grilling and barbecuing are well showcased in Rajasthani cooking. Laal maas, a fiery Rajasthani goat curry, is recommended.

Steakhouses—parrillas—are the staple in beautiful Buenos Aires, and the thick-cut beef is a reliable favorite among porteños (that’s what locals call themselves). Honey-glazed sweetbreads and house-smoked cuts are also popular.

Numerous specialities originated here, most famously "bolognese" sauce and "baloney" (Bologna) sausage, or mortadella. Food-lovers will find the city teeming with food stores, street markets and a fantastic range of eating options, from fine dining to simple trattorias.

13) Ensenada, Mexico

Today, foodies flock to Ensenada’s many street stands serving the classic combo of fried fish and shrimp topped with mayo, salsa, and cabbage. This started when the Ensenada market opened in 1958 and began selling fresh, local seafood, and the fish tacos became the stuff of legend.

14) Barcelona, Spain

There's more to the Spanish city than its fresh seafood and humble, family-run tapas bars. Paella, a rice dish, usually prepared in a big pot over an open fire, with a variety of vegetables, meat, chicken or fish added, is one of the most typical dishes one will find here.

15) Lima, Peru

On the surf-lashed Pacific coast, sprawling Lima is well placed to harvest the ocean's bounty and seafood is its selling point - most famously in ceviche, raw fish cured in lime juice with a spark of chilli heat, served with raw onion and fresh coriander. Quinoa, avocado, Andean lamb, vegetables and tubers appear on menus, along with paiche (an Amazonian catfish) and tumbo.
